Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass with Maryland Symphony

Last night, we went to a concert put on by the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, featuring the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass group.

Rodney Marsalis is the cousin and previous student of the famous trumpet player, Wynton Marsalis. Rodney was born in New Orleans, studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, and tours around the world.

The program was entitled “Brothers on the Battlefield” and featured scenes from the “Civil War” and the Civil Rights movement. Favorite tunes were played such as “Amazing Grace”, “When the Saints Go Marching In”, and “Stars and Stripes Forever”.

Right now the group is on tour in the U.S. as well as in Europe, and if a concert is presented in your area, we definitely recommend trying to go see it. Rodney Marsalis and the Philadelphia Big Brass Band have amazing energy and life and Rodney Marsalis and another older trumpet player are unbelievable. Great showmen and musicians for sure!
